A Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) initiative that gives communities information, time and space to develop their own local energy vision
Corsham and surrounding areas
Future Energy Landscapes has been working in Corsham and surrounding areas since November 2024. It is a partnership between Wiltshire council, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Bath and West Community Energy, with support from Corsham Climate Action.
The aim of Future Energy Landscapes is to engage the community in open conversations about renewable energy schemes that could be owned by the community and run for the benefit of the people living in the area.
We are interested to find out what local people feel about a community-owned wind turbine or solar farm in the Corsham area. This includes:
-
If Corsham residents would support renewable energy in the area.
-
Where a wind turbine or solar farm could be located.
-
How the community could benefit from such renewable energy scheme.
This page tells you more about what has been happening in your local area, and which current opportunities you can get involved in.
What’s happened so far
July 2025
We held a workshop at Corsham Town Hall to start a conversation about community energy in the area and explore possibilities for community benefit, and possible areas for a renewable energy project. The workshop was attended by 23 people from the area. Click here to read the report summarising the workshop discussions. The workshop report was published and an online survey launched to find out what other people in the area think about the workshop findings, and community energy generally.
September 2025
We held a workshop with around 50 young people at Corsham Youth Zone to discuss wind turbines and solar farms.
October 2025
We hosted a stand at Corsham Library for the day to promote the online survey, meet people and answer any questions they had about the project. We ran a drop-in session at Springfield Community Campus with stands from Corsham Climate Action, CSE, Wiltshire Council, and Bath & West Community Energy. The event was to raise awareness of what community energy is, how people can get involved in the project, promote the survey, and invite people to share their views about community energy. The online survey closed with 40 responses.

November 2025
This month we hosted a Forum workshop at Pound Arts. Around 25 local residents attended and shared their views on possible suitable areas for wind turbines and solar farms locally. We had a productive question and answer session which included discussion on whether a community renewables development is wanted locally. We also looked at what a community energy organisation is, and the financial and social benefits it can bring to a neighbourhood. The slides from this meeting can be found here.
January 2026
A second survey was launched to replicate the questions from November’s Forum workshop, to give the wider community the opportunity to comment and provide feedback. This survey closed on Sunday 15 February with 128 responses. These results will be published in a final report in July 2026.
March and April 2026
Based on feedback from the surveys and conversations with members of the community, 4 areas were chosen to do pre-feasibility reports on. This selection took into account concerns that were raised about the potential impact of different locations. These reports looked at technical constraints such as site access and grid connection to give residents more information to discuss on next steps.
May 2026
A workshop was held on 5 May called Choosing Your Energy Future, where 17 local people who have been involved with the project so far came together to discuss next steps. They reviewed the findings from the pre-feasibility reports and discussed whether they would like to form a working group to further explore a community energy project in Corsham.
What happens next?
The Future Energy Landscapes project is now complete in the Corsham area. A final report summarising the findings from engagement since the start of the project in July 2025 will be published in July 2026.
Next steps for a community energy project in Corsham are being explored and more information will be shared in due course.
