Nailsea & Tickenham

Join the conversation about future renewable energy schemes that could be owned by and benefit your local community. We're interested in what you think about a community-owned wind turbine or solar farm in the Nailsea & Tickenham area.

This includes finding out:

  • If you'd support renewable energy in the area.

  • Where a wind turbine or solar farm could be located.

  • How your community could benefit from a possible renewable energy scheme.

This page tells you more about what's been happening in your area, and which live opportunities you can get involved in.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy is working in partnership with North Somerset Council and Low Carbon Gordano. This work is funded by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. You can find out more about the work here and check our FAQs.

What's happened so far?

February 2022

A workshop was held at Tithe Barn way back in 2022 as part of a previous project to start a conversation about community energy in the area and explore possibilities for community benefit, and possible areas for a renewable energy project. The workshop was attended by 21 people from the area.

The workshop report was published and an online survey launched to find out what other people in the area think about the workshop findings, and community energy generally. 73 people responded to this survey

March 2026

Low Carbon Gordano hosted a stall at the Nailsea Eco Fair on 7th March to restart conversations with residents on the findings and outputs from the original workshop. Around 25 people inputted into these conversations with a preference for certain areas and rooftop solar emerging.

May 2026

We hosted a stall at Nailsea Farmers Market on 20th May. Around 50 people spoke to us throughout the morning, with many people generally favourable for a locally owned renewable energy project so long as the location did not take away from good quality farm land and was situated in a place local residents would be comfortable with

What happens next?

We will be continuing to engage with residents over the coming months including

  • Hosting a pop up stand outside Nailsea Library on 19th June

  • Presenting at Nailsea Town Council’s Environment and Leisure Committee on 20th May

We're hosting a workshop at the Tithe Barn on 10th June 6:15 - 8:30pm, the purpose of this will be to review all outputs and engagement and understand if there is appetite locally to continue exploring the possibility of a community owned renewable energy project.

Anyone is welcome to attend and no prior knowledge of energy is needed. If you'd like to join please register here.
