Pill, Portbury & Portishead

Join the conversation about future renewable energy schemes that could be owned by and benefit your local community. We're interested in what you think about a community-owned wind turbine or solar farm in the Pill, Portbury & Portishead area.

This includes finding out:

  • If you'd support renewable energy in the area.

  • Where a wind turbine or solar farm could be located.

  • How your community could benefit from a possible renewable energy scheme.

This page tells you more about what's been happening in your area, and which live opportunities you can get involved in.

The Centre for Sustainable Energy is working in partnership with North Somerset Council and Low Carbon Gordano, with support from Power to Pill. This work is funded by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. You can find out more about the work here and check our FAQs.

What's happened so far?

July 2025

We held a workshop at Pill Community Centre to start a conversation about community energy in the area and explore possibilities for community benefit, and possible areas for a renewable energy project. The workshop was attended by 12 people from the area.

Click here to read the report summarising the workshop discussions.

The workshop report was published and an online survey launched to find out what other people in the area think about the workshop findings, and about community energy generally.

September 2025

We held a pop-up stand outside Portishead Library on 16th September to promote the online survey, meet people and understand their opinions on community-owned renewable energy.

We spoke to around 100 people mostly from the wider Portishead area to get their views on the outputs from our workshop, give their thoughts on a community owned renewable energy scheme and, if they were supportive, to indicate where in the local area they may be comfortable seeing something. Generally, people were supportive of renewable energy technology and fed in useful insight into certain locations

November 2025

We held a pop-up stall outside Pill Resource centre on 27th November. Speaking to students from the local school and residents as they walked through the precinct to gather further insight and understanding from residents on their thoughts on community owned renewable energy. Again most people we spoke to were supportive of the idea of community-owned renewable energy

January 2026

We attended the Community Café and Food Hub at Pill Community Centre to promote our upcoming forum event and to get further input from local residents.

We hosted a forum at Pill Community Centre on 22nd January. Around 14 local residents attended and shared their views on possible suitable areas for wind turbines and solar farms locally. We had a good question and answer session which included discussion on whether a community renewables development is wanted locally. We also looked at what a community energy organisation is, and the financial and social benefits it can bring to a neighbourhood. The slides from this meeting can be found here.

What happens next?

After the feedback from our workshop on 22nd January we are working with partners to identify what the suitable next steps for the area. If you would like to get involved contact us at communities@cse.org.uk
