Winsley, Holt, Bradford-on-Avon and South Wraxall

Future Energy Landscapes has been working in the Winsley, Holt, Bradford-on-Avon and South Wraxall areas since November 2025. It is a partnership between Wiltshire council, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and Bath and West Community Energy, with support from Climate Friendly Bradford-on-Avon.

The aim of Future Energy Landscapes is to engage the community in open conversations about renewable energy schemes that could be owned by the community and run for the benefit of the people living in the area.

We are interested to find out what local people feel about a community-owned wind turbine or solar farm in the Winsley, Holt, Bradford-on-Avon and South Wraxall area. This includes:

  • If residents would support renewable energy in the area.

  • Where a wind turbine or solar farm could be located.

  • How the community could benefit from such renewable energy scheme.

This page tells you more about what has been happening in your local area, and which current opportunities you can get involved in.

Survey coming soon!

We will have our second survey live soon so check back for updates in the start of June 2025 to tell us if you would like a community energy project in your area, and where you think it should be.

What's happened so far?

November 2025

We held a workshop at Holt Village Hall to start a conversation about community energy in the area and explore possibilities for community benefit, and possible areas for a renewable energy project. The workshop was attended by 18 people from the area.

Click here to read the report summarising the workshop discussions.

The workshop report was published and an online survey launched to find out what other people in the area think about the workshop findings, and community energy generally. This survey closed in March 2026 with 128 responses.

February and March 2026

We popped up at The Shambles in Bradford-on-Avon to promote the survey and speak to people about the project.

We went to Hartley Farm to talk more with local people about community-owned renewables and how they can get involved in this project.

April 2026

A Forum event was held on 22 April 2026 at Fitzmaurice Primary School. Around 15 local residents attended and shared their views on possible suitable areas for wind turbines and solar farms locally. We had a productive discussion on whether a community renewables project is wanted in the area and what further engagement would be needed. We also looked at what a community energy organisation is, and the financial and social benefits it can bring to a neighbourhood.

What happens next?

We will be launching a second survey to follow up from the Forum event in April and find out if the wider community would like us to continue investigating projects in this area.

The next steps from this point will only be completed if there is enough support within the community to continue:

  • We will complete 2-3 pre-feasibility reports on sites for a ground-mounted solar scheme or wind turbine to look in more detail at grid connection, site access, landownership, and costings.

  • We will host another community workshop to bring these findings together and establish a working group to look at next steps for making a project a reality.

Once these steps are complete, we will produce a report summarising the findings from engagement throughout the project to help guide possible future development.
